The Steel Nation Project Engineer role is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing construction and engineering firm. Utilizing a solid understanding of Civil and Structural Engineering principles, the Project Engineer will provide high-level engineering support for building construction projects from pre-construction through finalization.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform engineering calculations for structural, mechanical, and civil design, including ventilation, sound, build-out, and strength.
  • Prepare construction documentation that details and defines that scope of agreed-upon work for construction projects.
  • Write and compile technical specifications and reports.
  • Determine and prepare job-costing information, including associated costs for materials, labor, and additional expenses for projects.
  • Attend project walk-throughs and pre-project meetings.
  • Oversee the permitting process including applications, fees, and coordination with subcontractors. Ensure all necessary paperwork is submitted and approved within the required timeframes.
  • Supervise the structural CAD staff to include delineating and balancing work loads, developing project milestone schedules, and keeping projects on track.
  • Develop budgets costs for each project.
  • Serve as a point of contact regarding project specifications and costs for clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal Project Managers and Engineers.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Possess Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, along with minimum 5 years experience in structural engineering, construction project management, or related field.
  • EIT certification or the ability to attain one within 6 months required; PE license preferred.
  • Safety orientation with a quality focus.
  • Proven detail-orientation and analytical skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • AutoCAD experience preferred.
  • Experience with structural engineering software preferred.
  • Knowledge of pre-engineered metal buildings helpful.

Construction Project Engineer

 The Steel Nation Construction Project Engineer role is an exciting new opportunity to join the region’s premier construction and engineering firm.  The Construction Project Engineer will assist the Project Management team in monitoring subcontractors, inspecting project progress, interfacing with internal & external customers while helping to maintain budgets and deadlines.

 Responsibilities include: 

  • In coordination with Project Managers and the Director of New Construction assist in the management of subcontractors throughout the construction process, including addressing performance and quality issues; enforcing safety policies and procedures; monitoring and addressing behavioral issues; communicating project objectives and changes with subcontractors.
  • As directed by the project management team, participate in managing the project goals, changes, expectations and outcomes
  • Provide effective communication and leadership to subcontractors, clients, and all associated project partners.
  • Promote safe working practices and enforce safety protocol.
  • Maintain relationships and coordinate with all on-site inspectors.
  • Promote the growth and development of client, subcontractor, vendor, and supplier relationships.
  • When required, lead and manage all daily/weekly job site meetings
  • Assist subcontractors by managing the punch list close out process on assigned jobs.
  • Limited overnight travel required.

Qualifications and Skills: 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction project management.
  • OSHA 10 Hour or OSHA 30 Hour Certification required.
  • Possess Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate experience.
  • PMP Certification a plus.
  • Strong business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit, with excellent decision-making ability.
